The PS3 has settings that you can access in case you bricked your PS3 or to install updates if they can't be installed the normal way.
To access the recovery mode on the PS3:
*Its preferable if your PS3 is switched off.
Press and hold the Power button until the PS3 turns on and then turns off.
After it has turned off, press and hold the Power button again until you hear a second beep and after that you will hear two consecutive beeps.
Let go and your PS3 will power up into the recovery mode!
